Corten A is a copper-chromium-nickel alloyed weathering steel that forms a stable, self-passivating oxide layer (patina) on the surface when exposed to the atmosphere. This protective patina dramatically slows further corrosion, allowing the material to be used bare and unpainted, reducing maintenance costs over the whole service life of a structure.
