We are pleased to offer our premium Hot Rolled S45C / 45# / SAE1045 / AISI 1045 Carbon Steel Plate, available in thicknesses from 10 mm to 200 mm with widths up to 2200 mm and customizable lengths. This medium carbon steel grade delivers an excellent combination of strength, machinability, and wear resistance for demanding industrial applications.
Material Characteristics
AISI 1045 is a medium carbon steel characterized by good weldability, excellent machinability, and high strength with impact toughness in either the normalized or hot-rolled condition. It is widely regarded as one of the most versatile carbon steel grades for general engineering and machinery applications.
While AISI 1045 has a low through-hardening capability (recommended section size of approximately 60 mm for tempering and through-hardening), it responds exceptionally well to flame or induction hardening in the normalized or hot-rolled condition, achieving surface hardnesses of Rc 54 – Rc 60 depending on section size, quenching medium, and setup configuration. Note that AISI 1045 lacks suitable alloying elements for nitriding.
