Introduction

This martensitic precipitation-hardened stainless steel, enhanced with copper and niobium, builds upon the 0Cr15Ni5Cu4Nb base alloy and further optimizes its chemical composition and overall performance. Through the synergistic strengthening effects of copper and niobium, combined with precisely controlled heat treatment processes, this steel achieves a superior combination of mechanical properties compared to conventional martensitic stainless steels. It exhibits excellent tensile strength along with good ductility and toughness, making it an ideal choice for critical load-bearing structures. In terms of corrosion resistance, this steel significantly outperforms traditional martensitic stainless steels such as Cr13, 9Cr18, and 1Cr17Ni2. The synergistic effect of chromium, copper, and niobium endows it with enhanced resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride environments, particularly reaching its optimal corrosion resistance when aged at H1150. This steel also excels in corrosion fatigue performance; experimental data show that its corrosion fatigue limit is more than 30% higher than that of 12%Cr martensitic steels, and its resistance to water droplet erosion has been markedly improved as well. Regarding fabrication processes, this steel demonstrates excellent weldability and can be joined using conventional methods such as shielded metal arc welding and laser welding. After welding, its properties can be readily restored through simple post-weld heat treatment. It boasts outstanding forging characteristics, with a wide range of hot-working temperatures; however, its cold-forming capabilities are relatively limited. For parts with complex geometries, it is recommended to employ hot-forming processes.

Applications

In the aerospace industry, this material is widely used to manufacture critical load-bearing structural components of aircraft, including landing gear parts, engine mounting brackets, actuators for flight control systems, and high-strength fasteners for spacecraft. In the energy equipment sector, it is an ideal choice for gas turbine compressor blades, main pump shafts and valve components in nuclear power plants. In the petrochemical industry, it is primarily employed in critical equipment operating in highly corrosive environments—for example, valve bodies for deep-sea oil production trees, impellers and shaft sleeves for chemical process pumps. In the marine engineering field, it is commonly used to fabricate high-pressure pump components for seawater desalination units, hydraulic system components for submarines, and fastening and connecting elements for offshore platforms. Additionally, in the high-end equipment manufacturing sector, it can also be utilized in the production of precision molds, medical devices (such as orthopedic surgical instruments), and key components for defense industry products.
