NiCrMo alloy Hastelloy B-3 withstands vigorously corrosive acidic media such as hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, formic acid, phosphoric acid and other reducing conditions. It gives outstanding resistance to non-oxidizing acids at the whole magnitudes and temperature limits. The chemical composition of Nickel B3 makes it a more stable alloy than Nickel B2, hence more convenient formation.
Due to low content of chromium, Hastelloy B3 is not suggested for use in oxidizing conditions such as in presence of ferric or cupric salts. It should also not be used in applications including wet chloride or hypochlorite bleach.
Unique feature of Alloy B3 is its potential to maintain high ductility during transient exposures to moderate temperatures.

Hastelloy B-3 Production
Troubles related with the fabrication of Hastelloy B2 parts decrease by using alloy B3 because of its enhanced thermal stability. Lower carbon magnitude allows Nickel B3 to be used in as-welded form. It has fine forming and welding properties. It can be forged or hot processed up to 2250oF. It is important to use low hot finishing temperatures to achieve grain size control. It may also be produced through cold processing. However, it work hardens quickly; alloy B3 parts can be produced following conventional cold forging methods. For welding, the traditional welding techniques are suitable except oxyacetylene and submerged arc welding.
